   LanTalk.NET Options - Contact List

The above settings allow to adjust the contact list's appearance and the way it should work, as well as to select several security options.

Allow messages from the Contact List only Accept messages only from the senders included in the list. LanTalk NET will reject messages from those who are not on the list. This option is intended for higher level of security.
Do not register new contacts automatically Do not register new contacts. By default, LanTalk NET adds all clients who send greetings to the list. If this option is enabled, new contacts will not be registered. This option is intended for higher level of security.
Contacts are temporary by default All new contacts are temporary by default. This option is becomes enabled at installation. It makes easier to adjust work of LanTalk NET when you start to work in a network. Temporary contacts are not saved in the contact list; those are deleted as soon as you restart LanTalk NET.
Allow changing workgroup automaticly If user has changed the workgroup, LanTalk NET will move him to the new group automaticly.
Allow sending messages to offline contacts by default Add offline users to the contact list. The option may be changed when sending a message in the editor window. The option may be useful, for example, when sending a message to a workgroup.
Attempts to contact users with Offline status (if allowed) Try to deliver the message to offline clients during the first attempt. Otherwise, those will be omitted in order to save time if the recipient is actually inaccessible. If this option is disabled, and the option Allow Delayed Delivery is enabled, the message will be delivered later.
Allow Delayed Delivery Enable Delayed Delivery. The function allows delivering messages to the currently unavailable (Offline) users. As soon as the user becomes available (sends the Online status), LanTalk NET will send all previously undelivered messages right away (all undelivered - partially or entirely - messages are stored in the Outbox folder).
Use a contact list from an external location Take a contact list from a different location (not from the user folder). Thus, you can adjust usage of one contact list for all network users by storing the list in a shared folder or at a network drive.
External list path The path to the contact list. Specify only the folder the contact list is stored in. The name of the file containing the contact list should be Contacts.List
Send your status every (sec.) Sets the periodicity of sending your status to the network (when LanTalk NET is open). Use 0 to disable this option. Such messages Lantalk NET uses for building a contact list and displays the user currentstatus. The status is sent in the form of a broadcast message for the current network segment. All other users (not included in this segment) will not receive these messages. For such users, there is an option: Request status from contact list (sec.)
Request status from contact list (sec.) Defines after what period status of the users with the Force Status Checking flag enabled should be requested. This flag allows detecting status of the users out of your network segment (those who use router, for example). It is necessary to allow LanTalk NET to work in several network segments (WAN, VPN) or through Internet.
Set contact as Offline after failed requests The number of failed requests, after which exceeds, the user status becomes offline. This setting allows specifying the number of unsuccessful requests. If the number is exceeded, the user with the Force Status Checking flag will be treated as offline one. This option enables to exactly know user status; since it is not always possible to get a message from the user verifying that one closed LanTalk NET (turned the computer off, etc).
Track your activity to detect Away/NA status Track your activity for setting the Away and NA statuses. The option works by simply asking Windows when either a button was pressed or the mouse was moved. Depending on the settings, your status will be displayed below.
Set Away status after (min.) Set status as Away after the specified period (in minutes).
Set NA status after (min.) Set NA status after the specified period (in minutes).
Fast population of the Contact List at StartUp LanTalk NET may send special network packet at startup to populate Contact List faster. But this feature will generate some additional UPD traffic.
Use Multicast for Contact List LanTalk NET may use multicast instead of unicast for Contact List. This feature allow you to use LanTalk NET in the all subnets of your network without any additional configuration. Be sure that your routers allow multicast traffic.
Multicast address for Contact List You may change default multicast address for contact list here.
